The Wind Symphony of Northwest Missouri State University will present its spring concert on Thursday, April 11.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Mary Linn Auditorium at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. It is free and open to the public.

In addition to honoring its members who are participating in their final concert with the Wind Symphony, the program’s final selection will feature members of the University’s music faculty performing an arrangement of Astor Piazzolla’s “Libertango” by Northwest alumnus Robert Langenfeld. The performance will honor John Bell, a Northwest artist-in-residence and the conductor of the Wind Symphony who is retiring at the conclusion of the spring semester.

The Wind Symphony also will perform the “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare” by Richard Strauss, selected movements from “Lincolnshire Posy” by Percy Grainger, “Lux Aurumque” by Eric Whitacre and “Zoom” by Scott Boerma.

The Northwest Wind Symphony is the University’s premier wind ensemble and performs the best standard selections from all styles and periods, in addition to recent repertoire for wind bands.
